Great Lakes Marsh Monitoring

Long Point Waterfowl and Wetlands Research Program

Bird Studies Canada leads and oversees waterfowl and wetland research projects in the lower Great Lakes through the Long Point Waterfowl and Wetlands Research Program. With support from The Bluff's Hunting Club, the program was established in the 1980s to conserve waterfowl and other wetland-associated wildlife and their habitats through research and monitoring.

The program provides hands-on opportunities for young wildlife technicians, biologists, and scientists in all aspects of wildlife science. We have supervised and trained dozens of B.Sc. honours thesis, M.Sc., Ph.D., and postdoctoral students, and hundreds of technicians. The program's all-time list of publications is impressive and always growing.

The tremendous success of the Long Point Waterfowl and Wetlands Research Program as a leader in high-quality applied science for conservation planning is due to our diverse supporters in Canada and the United States. These have included private donors, foundations, governments, corporations, universities, non-government organizations, and various granting agencies.
